I know right, how is this possible? It happened guys. At 32 weeks into her preganancy, a 22-year old woman from Mwanza, Tanzania found out that her unborn child was growing outside of her amniotic sac.
She intially went to the hospital thinking that she was just having an extremely bad stomach ache. The doctor performed an ultrasound, gave her treatment for her symptoms and the pain settled a bit. Two days later, the woman had a second ultrasound performed. Doctors discovered that her baby was growing outside of the womb instead within her stomach. The sac remained intact inside of the unused womb and the unborn child was not receiving any nourishment from the amniotic fluid.
Due to precautions, the baby was surgically delivered immediately and both the child and the mother are healthy! She delivered a 3 lb 7oz baby girl into the world. What a blessing.
Facts related to abdominal pregnancies:
- Abdominal pregnancies account for about one in every 10,000 pregnancies.
- The baby is surgically removed for the saftey of both the mother and the child.
- Abdominal pregnancies can cause severe bleeding within the mother.
- They can also result in anaemia and infection.
